Session Abstract:
Every test sponsor struggles with the challenges of creating tests that truly assess a candidate’s ability to do the job. They put together the best test that they can with the tools that they have, but at the end of the day most walk away feeling less than fulfilled. Down deep, they know that while they have thoroughly covered the knowledge of facts and concepts, they have not really achieved the essence of what makes the professional competent. The building blocks are there, but the “art” of the profession is missing. This session looks at how innovative, interactive and multi media items can fill this void by assessing high-level analysis, synthesis and decision-making skills and abilities that are challenging to assess with traditional test items. Our presenters will demonstrate how innovative computer based items can present complex, problem solving tasks including ethical dilemmas, and how such tests can be delivered and scored. Clarence “Buck” Chaffee and David Cox have extensive experience with traditional and advanced test design. They will engage a panel of test sponsors and the audience in this important timely discussion.
